What type of music?

Reggae, Rock, Dub

When did you first start?

Tim Schneider (guitar, vocals) began playing with Jeff Gaertner (drums) in 2008 in Pontiac Michigan. Dave Shultz (bass) and Aaron Brown (keyboard, vocals) began doing shows with 1/2 Way There in 2013. Chip Swayne (guitar) and Thayer Niemi (Saxophone) are the most recent additions to the band.

Why did you decide to start it?

We make music to make people happy. Reggae can be incredibly soothing and healing to the soul, but can also make you stand up and pump your fist in protest of the injustices of our modern world. Our music is a balance of these core ideas.

Are you a solo Artist or part of group?

We are a group

What name do you go by?

1/2 Way There

How did you come up with the name?

1/2 Way There can be interpreted in many ways, but for me it is a pivotal point in any journey or obstacle. Whether it is a musician, athlete, or scholar it is a point at which you find the strength to finish it or save your resources/time and turn back. Music has been an important factor in our lives to get over that hump.

Who do you like to collaborate with?

For starters the band itself is really a collaboration. The band in its current form became so when Aaron Brown (keyboard, vocals) joined the band and started to perform some of his songs from his original band Lucky Brown. With multiple singers and songwriters it has given the band an extra dynamic in live shows and the songwriting process as a whole. In general, we are very open to collaborating and have done so often in the past.

Where do you play?

We have been primary playing in the Oakland County area recently. We recently played at the Black Lotus in Clawson, and at several bars in Waterford. We also have played at the battle of the bands Detroit finals and multiple shows in Downtown Pontiac including the Crowfoot, Studio 6, and Magnetic studios.

When are your upcoming shows?

Our next show is Saturday November 28 at The Crowfoot Pike room in downtown Pontiac, Michigan. It’s going to be any excellent show. Several of the bands we have done shows with in the past will also be performing including Leaving Lifted and Call Marvin.
