First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR! Does it feel like 2014? No? Well I know something this year DOES feel like: fucking Siberia. Thanks to either weather modification or Mother Nature going through menopause, we here in Detroit (and pretty much all of the Midwest) are doing our best to stay warm and ya know…not die.

Judging by the news reports, there is a strong chance that you, the reader, are stuck at home (to your pleasure or dismay depending on if you have children) with some kind of awful daytime television show on in the background. Fuck ‘The Chew’ and whatever god awful diarrhea Wendy Williams is spewing out today; I have something better for you. A Netflix original series in its second season called ‘Lilyhammer’, a show about a former mob employee (one of the dudes who was also on The Sopranos *shocker*…) who wants out of the game for good and relocates too, you guessed it…Lilyhammer, Norway.

What does this have to do with heavy metal? Well for one, Norway is the birthplace of black metal, a loooot of church burnings and a ton of other shenanigans during the early 90’s. Second, someone that works on the show is fully aware of this fact (golf claps!), and has given metal the kudos it deserves. In all honesty, if they DIDN’T mention black metal, I would have a serious bone to pick with whomever was in charge of doing the research for this program before filming. But that’s just me…

ANYWAY, in season 2 episode 3 around 22:05, a metal band is melting the faces off of Norwegian club goers as they bop around aimlessly like its Kanye on stage. It turns out that the band is a real group hailing from, yeah…Norway, by the name of Oslo Faenskap. They’re…umm…nothing particularly original, but HEY! METAL IN THE MAINSTREAM WOOOOOOO!!!!!! Check out the bands single “Give Credit Where Credits Due” below, and give the producers of Lilyhammer credit for actually featuring a real metal band from Norway rather than some actors with fake lip rings and corny mohawks.

Have you watched Lilyhammer yet? What do you think of Oslo Faenskap? Weaksauce or br00tal?
