          Meanwhile, in Sochi…

Its Friday, and therefore anyone who is awesome will be consuming alcoholic beverages upon their release from the hell they call work this evening. And some of those people may decide to drink vodka. It’s not overtly connected to metal, but it should be. Its clear, so it can easily be confused as water by many bands and their fans. It keeps you warm (which is necessary considering its about -15 outside right now), you can mix it with just about anything, and most importantly: IT’LL GETCHA DRUNK! Here I present to you 3 metal bands that invigorate my love for vodka. PARTY!

The Ocean Collective

Album of Choice:  Heliocentric

Suggested Vodka: Valentine Vodka

The Ocean reminds me of vodka due to a party I was at a few years ago where the guys showed up after the show. All I’ll say is that I woke up at 7 am with a GIANT lump on my noggin, still drunk off vodka, thinking it was the perfect time to go outside and shoot hand guns at the abandoned school across the street from my friend’s house. Don’t worry, her husband quickly shot down this incredibly idiotic and not to mention ILLEGAL AS FUCK idea.  This has nothing to do with the band’s music and everything to do with consuming too much vodka. ANYWAY, The Ocean are soon set to embark on a short German tour (at least that’s what I gather from my poor translation skills) promoting their latest album PelagialGo like them on Facebook, because if you don’t, shelter puppies will explode in the arms of small children.

Baroness

Album of Choice: The Blue Record

Suggested Vodka: Russian Standard

No, Baroness are not from Russia. However, their style of metal is hard yet smooth, which is way I like my vodka. And my men. And my sex. ANYWAY,  John Baizley (lead vox/guitar) not only crushes musically, but is one of the most easily recognizable album cover artists in the genre right now. After Baronesses frightening bus accident in August of 2012, John remains the only original member of the band. But don’t let that deter you from the bands future endeavors; Baroness (and their new members) are fully committed to writing new material in the near future. In the meantime, check out The Blue Record, and if you live in um, Australia, go check them out with Gojira and the band featured below!

Mastodon

Album of Choice:  Crack The Skye

Suggested Vodka:  EFFEN Cucumber (seriously this is the bomb)

If I were to turn a bands music into a taste, I would turn Mastodon into cucumber, hence the above pick. A band that has certainly seen its share of drama (possibly due to certain members drinking a wee bit too much), Mastodon certainly doesn’t let it come in the way of cranking out whimsically skull-crushing tunage. I know, I’ll probably catch a lot of flack from readers claiming that this vodka is “for pussies”. To those who are thinking that right about now, here is my explanation for choosing said beverage: its fresh, its different, you can drink a lot of it without getting sick of it, and it’s complex yet still palatable for a multitude of different drinkers. Exactly how Mastodon fits into the realm of music. Oh, and FYI – the guys just announced that they are nearly finished with the new album and are embarking on a tour with Gojira, which I mentioned above. *cue happy dance*

What bands arouse your taste for vodka? Do you even like vodka? Do you believe in God?! Let me know in the comments.
